Why are ultra-thin condoms attracting so much?
Many people want to maintain the protection of a condom while reducing the feeling of material between the partners as much as possible. This is precisely what made the so-called ultra-thin models successful, some of which are marketed around 0.01 mm.
Slogans sometimes promise a feeling «as if you weren't wearing anything». You have to take this formula for what it is: a way of describing a very fine product, not the real equivalent of a relationship without a condom. Even very thin, the condom remains a physical barrier, and it is precisely this barrier that reduces the risk of pregnancy and transmission of many sexually transmitted infections when it is correctly used.
What does 0.01 mm actually represent?
0.01 mm corresponds to an extremely low thickness. To give an order of magnitude, a human hair is generally several times thicker. This explains why some ultra-thin models give a more direct contact impression and transmit heat better than thicker condoms.

However, you should avoid comparing boxes only from a number. Manufacturers can measure thickness using different methods and comfort also depends on the material, nominal width, elasticity and the amount of lubricant used.
A model advertised at 0.01 mm but ill-fitting can be less pleasant than a slightly thicker model at the right size.
Why do 0.01 mm models often cost more?
Making a very thin film while maintaining the expected mechanical performance requires more precision in the material and the industrial process. This is one of the reasons why ultra-thin ranges are generally sold more individually than standard condoms.

The price also depends on the brand, the packaging, the country and the material. It is therefore not very useful to retain a specific price as a permanent reference: the prices change. What remains true is that the search for a minimum thickness tends to place the product in a more premium range.
Latex or polyurethane: what difference?
Many classic condoms are made of latex. This material is flexible, elastic and widely used, but some people are allergic to it or do not like its feeling.

Several very fine condoms use polyurethane or other synthetic materials.
On the other hand, its sensation and elasticity are not identical to those of the latex.
How can such a fine condom remain reliable?
A legally marketed condom must meet the requirements applicable to the market where it is sold. Manufacturers notably carry out checks intended to detect leaks, defects and resistance problems.

Packaging control
The protection does not depend only on the film. The individual packaging must remain intact and the expiry date must be respected. Excessive heat, prolonged storage in a wallet or a damaged bag can degrade the product even before it is used.
Is it really «like wearing nothing»?
No. Some people feel a clear difference between a standard condom and an ultra-thin model, especially in terms of heat and friction.

But even when the contact seems very natural, the function of the condom has not disappeared. It continues to separate body fluids and is a barrier contraceptive method as well as a way to reduce the risk of many STIs.
Saying that a 0.01 mm model «looks more like a relationship without a condom can therefore make sense in terms of sensation.
Size often matters more than thickness
A condom that is too tight can be uncomfortable and tend to roll or exert excessive pressure.

The correct size should remain in place during the report without causing any annoying compression.
The lubricant also improves comfort
A lack of lubrication increases friction, which can make any condom less pleasant. Use a lubricant compatible with the condom material.

With latex, avoid non-compatible oils and fats, which can weaken the material. Water-based lubricants are usually the easiest choice, while some silicone products are also compatible as per manufacturer's instructions.
Is a 0.01 mm worth its price?
It mostly depends on your priorities.
- If you are very sensitive to the thickness of the condom and look for a more direct contact feeling, an ultrafine may be worth the test.
- If you prefer the price, a well-fitting 0.02 or 0.03 mm model can already be very comfortable.
- If you are allergic to latex, look first at the material rather than the thickness.
- If a condom slips or tightens too much, change width before looking for an even thinner film.

In any case, choose a product from an identifiable manufacturer, check the packaging and expiration date, and follow the instructions for use.
