A good lubricant reduces friction, improves comfort and can limit small irritations associated with penetration or use of a sex toy. It can also reduce the risk of breaking a condom when friction is high, provided you choose a formula compatible with the condom material.
The three major families are water, silicone and oil-based lubricants.
Water-based lubricants
They are the most versatile. They rinse easily, do not stain textiles and are generally compatible with condoms and most sex toys.
Their main drawback is that they can dry out for a long session. Then simply put it back or, depending on the formula, add a few drops of water.

Silicone-based lubricants

They can also be more difficult to remove sheets and often require soap to be completely removed from the skin.
Advantages: Long lasting and excellent glide.
Disadvantages: Less easy cleaning and compatibility to check with silicone toys.
Oil-based lubricants
The oils remain slippery for a long time, but they have a significant limit: they can weaken the latex and increase the risk of breaking condoms made from this material.
They are also more difficult to clean and can stain textiles. Some people find them irritating when they stay on the mucous membranes for a long time.
If you are using a condom, explicitly check compatibility before choosing an oily formula.
How to choose simply?
For versatile use or with a sex toy whose material you do not know perfectly, start with a water-based lubricant. Choose a silicone formula if you are looking for a long-lasting glide and your sex toys are compatible.
In any case, stop use if the product causes burning or irritation. The right lubricant is not necessarily the one that contains the most effects or perfumes: it is the one that remains comfortable, compatible with your condom and sex toy, and easy to use in your situation.
And in case of vaginal dryness?
The lubricant can provide immediate relief during intercourse, but repeated dryness may also be related to hormones, menopause, certain medications or irritation. If it becomes persistent or painful, it is useful to talk to a health professional about it. The lubricant improves glide; It does not necessarily treat the cause of drought.
